About Me

Kaitlyn Washington is a fifth year Architecture student at California Polytechnic, San Luis Obispo. Residential architecture initially inspired her to pursue a career in the field of architecture; the way even the most minute details in a home can accommodate everyday routines of families fascinated her. In her year prior to attending college, Kaitlyn took an introduction class to engineering. Working with 3D modeling programs, 3D printers, and learning how to create functioning mechanisms further developed a passion for design.

While in the college of architecture and design, the psychology behind architecture started to bring a new fascination within the wide realm of architecture. The way that indirect sunlight in a room can positively affect the user’s mood, the way that materiality can affect how the user feels about the space, good or bad, brings so much more thought to a built environment than just construction. Designing spaces that either help improve someone’s mental and emotional health or evoke a certain family of emotions really drives Kaitlyn to further pursue a career in architecture.

In the future, Kaitlyn would like to pursue a career in residential architecture, equine architecture, or institutional architecture.
